The Gardens Competition is one of the two large annual events run by the Council.
There are several categories, for example Best Newcomer, and you donít have to have to be an expert or to have a big garden.
We try to make it an interesting, enjoyable community event, and would like as many parishioners as possible to take part.
If you or your company would like to sponsor the event, then please contact us.
Taking Part
Each Spring, we advertise the competition on the invitation to the Annual Parish Meeting, which is delivered to every property in the Parish, and ask participants to complete and return the Entry Form.
The competition is judged over usually the last weekend in July, when the competition judge (Mr Terry Simmonds (left)), organiser (Councillor Gerry Angiolini (centre)), council chairman (Councillor Ron Smith (right)), and photographer (Councillor Julie Barton) tour the gardens entered.
The Council is very grateful to Mr Terry Simmonds for judging the competition. (Parishioners may remember his garden centre in Chipperfield before he retired.)
Awards Evening
The Council presents awards at an awards evening in mid October at the Cricket Club Pavilion. (These are the Current Awards.)
At the awards evening, the Council has also been able to auction and raffle items for charity.
We are very grateful to the companies and individuals who have donated these items, and if you would like to donate items for charity auction/raffle, then please contact us.
The awards evening in 2013 raised £775 for the Hospice of St. Francis, as pictured.
