Environmental Services
 
The council owns and maintains:
the village centre entrance signs,
the village garden (off Watford Rd/Church Ln),
the public flowerbeds,
the brick-built bus stop shelters, and
most of the park benches.
 
The councilís Village Warden also does the basic litter-picking and grounds maintenance which can be done by a single person.
 
The council is offering funding in attempts to persuade the Borough and County Councils to improve the appearance of some locations in the parish, e.g. the Love Lane edge of the Common.
 
Community Services
 
In recent years, the council has supported numerous village groups and charities, and has provided additional community facilities.
 
The council has given grants to pensioner groups, the Royal British Legion, charities such as the Hospice of St.Francis & the Road Victims Trust, the Local History & Museum Society, sporting clubs such as the Cricket & Swimming clubs, schools, Scouts, Guides & Youth Club.
 
The council also replaced the run-down goalposts in Green Park with modern play facilities.
 
Annual Events
 
Each year, the council runs or supports the following events in the parish.  
 
Beating the Bounds - A public walk around the parish boundary on Rogation Sunday (5th Sunday after Easter) - please contact the council office for details.
 
Best Kept Gardens Competition
A large-scale competition run by the Council - please see the Gardens Competition page.
 
Carnival - The council helps the Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club to run the Carnival on the Common in June.
 
Christmas Festival - A very large event in the High Street run jointly with Community Action Dacorum - see the Christmas Festival page.
 
Other Services
 
Lobbying - The council is active in promoting or defending parish interests. We can pursue public matters with other councils if parishioners have had problems getting those matters resolved, e.g. road faults/improvements.    
 
Consultations - The council, as a statutory consultee, is consulted on a wide range of public services provided in the parish, e.g. health services and strategic planning (housebuilding/the village's green belt).  
 
Planning Applications - The council is also consulted on all planning applications in the parish, and, subject to planning law, has the power to refer applications to the Borough Councilís Development Control Committee.
